ANGLING ADVENTURES OF LOUISIANA

FISHING REPORT

I have had the pleasure to guide and fish with Tom Cooper for the last 5 or 6 years. We fished with his sister Trish before the storm and agian yesterday. Tom and Trish stayed at the SPOTS & DOTS LAKE HOUSE just steps from the dock. They enjoyed a good nights sleep and were ready to go first thing in the morning. With the forcast calling for windy conditions we headed to the local marsh, for protected waters and REDFISH. We fished shrimp and cocahoes under a cork to catch the limit of fine Fat REDFISH with 2 Bull Reds mixed in, and 1 Flounder. We caught a few Specks along the way but threw them back. Most to small. A fun day in the marsh for Tom & his sister Trish.

ANGLING ADVENTURES OF LOUISIANA

I copied Blairs report and added a pitcure

Me and a buddy fished yesterday with Capt. Mike Gallo of Angling Adventures of LA. This was probably my tenth time fishing with Capt. Mike so he must be doing something right! We fished some marsh around Lake Borgne and MRGO. Seemed like wherever we found clean water we picked up some nice fish. As usual, learned some things about fishing I didn't know from Capt. Mike. Great teacher and had a lot of laughs. Finished the day with a 3-man limit of redfish, 10 nice trout, and a black drum. After seeing the Spots and Dots Lodge, think I'll stay there next time-cant beat it for the price and convenience. Thanks for a great day Capt. Mike, and I'll see you soon.

Thanks for your kind words Blair.

ANGLING ADVENTURES OF LOUISIANA

After many request for my CCA Redfish Challenge story, I'll answer them here.

My partner Steve and I left the SPOTS & DOTS dock Thursday to prefish the tournament. We made our way over to the Biloxi Marsh. Our goal to see if we could put a pattern together. I wanted to try to develope two patterns. One on the edge of the marsh and one deep inside. That way we would have a plan no matter what the weather or water clarity. As the day wore on it became clear to us that the bigger fish were in the bigger bodies of water. We were fishing Spinners & Spoons. We fished several areas to see if this pattern held true and it did. We caught about 20 fish which made us feel confident but if we had to weight out 2 biggest I feel we would have had only 11.5 or 12 lbs. We both thought we would need 14 to compete. We didn't fish hard in each area, that is if we caught 3 fish in less than 30 minutes we would leave knowing this would be an area we would fish on tournament day.

FRIDAY:  Captain's meeting

I felt the rules meeting was very good. The rules were explained very clearly.

TOURNAMENT DAY.

Steve, Ron and myself watched the radar and kept in contact with CCA on the VHS. The start of the tournament was delayed to allow some bad weather to pass. When all was clear we did our boat check and departed at 7:45. The week of the tournament I fished a charter in some bayous along the edge of the Biloxi Marsh where we caught many tournament fish and I saw about 40 we didn't catch. I wanted to fish that area again. We pulled into the bayou and started to fish. The water was hight and falling even though the tide was supposed to be rising. The storm that just passed through was pushing the water out. We fished this area for about an hour and put 2 23" fish in the live well. The water stopped falling and started to come in very slow. With the high water I told the guys where I thought the Reds would be. We made a move and started to catch more fish. We culled through about 30 fish to end up with one at 26.75 and one at 25.5. We did catch one that was one the line at 27 inches even, we kept that fish in the live well for several hours but he would not shrink. The rule was very clear "if the tail touches the line it's too long" We finally had to release him. He weighed 1.5 lbs more than the 25.5 inch fish we had to keep. THAT'S WHAT MAKES IT EXCITING!!!! At 3:00 pm we decided to make our way in. Our check in time 4:45.  Steve put the fish in the bag and weighed them as I found a spot to dock the Cajun Limo. We weighed in 13.2 lbs, good enough for 13th place out of over 130 competitors. We all had a great time and will do it again. Ron Harris kept us laughing all day long, Steve McNemar had his game face on which was hard to do with all of Ron's jokes. I had a great time with two friends fishing. That's the way it went for us this year, next year we will try to do  better.

P.S. We were 1 pound out of 1st place. The 27" fish that was 1/16 of an inch to long cost us 11,500 dollars.

All our fish were caught on Spinners & Spoons. Black Spoons, lime bone & Morning glory H&H colors on our 4.5 spinner blades.

Better luck next year!!!!

FISHINR REPORT

Mark Johnson made the short drive in from Madinsonville to have a day on the water with his two sons Nick (14) & Evan(17). We left the Spots & Dots Dock at 9am to give the tide a chance to start comming in. When we arrived at the Biloxi Marsh the water was still low. I ran to an interior lake and set the guys up with plastics under a cork. We put a few in the boat with many to small to keep. After several moves and more Speckled Trout they wanted to catch some REDFISH. I made a move to some skinny water ponds where we all got in on the action. I set Nick & Evan up with plastics under corks with about 10" leader. The Reds ate it up and it was easy for the guys to catch on. Mark did catch a few but was more interested in watching his sons enjoy a good trip. We returned to the Spots & Dots with a mixed box of Drum, REDFISH & Speckled Trout. We all enjoyed the time on the water.

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY!!! Here are a few of our recent trips.

Barry Chandler wanted to fish with his two sons Blake & Barron during the Thanksgiving break. The slow tide made for a hard day but we stuck with it and had a fun time. This is a fun family to fish with. The bridges in Lake pontchartrain produced.

Shrimp on the bottom

Box Count:
27 Speckled Trout
6 Black Drum
1 Flounder

Bill Farley wanted to learn some areas in the Biloxi Marsh to catch REDFISH & Specks. I met Bill at Rigolets Marina jumped in his new Champoin Bay Boat. His friend Mark joined us. I took them deep in the Biloxi Marsh. We fished Spinners & Spoons as well as topwaters to catch REDFISH. Bill fished a LSU plastic under a cork to catch many Specks and a few Reds also.

I didn't get a box count But I'd say we had 8 to 10 Redfish and 12 to 15 Specks.

We did have a fun time on the water!!!

Steve McNemar his wife Stacie and clients Ron & LeAnne were ready to brave the cold and windy conditions. We made a short run to only catch 2 fish. I made another move and we started to catch a few. The pace was slow and the bite slower but we stayed with it to put together a small box of fish. Steve wanted to see the LSU game so we called it a day early. Steve took the fish with him but I'd say we had 20 fish. A mix of Speckled Trout, White Trout and Channels.

Capt. John & Capt. Kenny had the Bill Brownlee group of 8 in on the same day. They fished the same area for a box of 50 to 60 fish. A mix of Drum, Redfish, Speckled Trout, White Trout & Channels. Both Capt.s told me the bite picked up at the end of the falling tide.  We all fished Shrimp on the bottom for our catch.

The fishing in the Rigolets area continues to be good. Call to book your ANGLING ADVENTURE 985.781.7811 or 877.4 AAofLA. On the water accommodations and a NO-FISH-NO-PAY-GUARANTEE.

RIGOLETS FISH REPORTS

Angling Adventures had a few boats out this week. Here is a quick run down of our success.

Vickey Lueb, "T" & neibor Admiral made the short trip over from MS. Vickey & T have fished with me for several years now and we always have good trips. This fall didn't dissapoint. Plastics and shrimp on the bottom did the trick.

Box Count:
64 Speckled Trout
1 REDFISH that T caught

I often stop at Hickory Grocery for my lunch. Teresa purchased a gift cerfificate for her boyfriend Allen as a birthday gift. Allen brought friend John and John's son Chris (15). We made our way over to the Biloxi Marsh to tangle with the hard fighting REDFISH. We hit the marsh and started to put a few in the box. The H&H spinner jigs were the ticket to a limit of fat REDFISH. After we finished off the limit of REDFISH we made a move to the out skirts of the marsh to look for some trout.
We got on a fair bite catching 30 Speckled Trout.

I got a call from Billy Wright who wanted to fish in Lake Pontchartrain. I already had a trip booked so I made a call to the BEST FISHERMEN ON LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN. Capt. Kenny Kreeger. Kenny was up to the task. Bill and his two friends had a good day with Capt. Kenny. I could hear them laughing for 1/2 a mile down the bridge.

Box Count:
32 Nice Lake Pontchartrain Specks
3 Black Drum
2 Flounder

I fished with good friend Dan Couvillion. We fished the bridges of Lake Pontchartrain with plastics and live shrimp on the bottom to catch a good box of Speckled trout also. We fished half a day to catch Specks and a few Drum.

Box Count:
24 Speckled Trout
3 Black Drum

We would have caught more but Dan's son Danny couldn't make the trip. Sorry Danny!!!!

Ran two boats today. Capt John had the Robert Brown group. Robert, John & Joe are from Al. YES we did give them a hard time about LSU beating Alabama. It was all in fun and this was a fun group of anglers. The Trout bite was off so Capt John ask them if they wanted REDFISH or Flounder. They all wanted Flounder. Capt John has been on a good Flounder hole. Capt. John did a little coaching on the Flounder bite and they went to work catching a LIMIT of FAT Flounder.

10 Speckled Trout 12" to 16"
2 Sheepshead at 5lbs each

TWO DAY REPORT

A few weeks ago I set up a trip with Patrick Richardson from PA. Pat's wife Debbie works for the Shaw Group in Baton Rouge. They come in several times a year. Pat wanted to catch REDFISH. With the windy conditions we were fourced to stay in the local area where we caught 1 limit of REDFISh and several Speckled Trout. We fished hard in tough conditions.

The winds were light when I arrived at the Spots & Dots Lake House for our second trip. Pat came down and I told him we may have a chance to get to the Biloxi Marsh. We made the run to the Biloxi Marsh and I set Pat up with a H&H Spinner/jig with LSU color. It didn't take long and Pat caught a nice 24" REDFISH. Before the day was over Pat caught  his limit and released another limit. I caught a limit as well. We also caught about a dozen Specks on spinners. I don't use spinners to catch trout but when I catch them on spinners it tells me that there are plenty out there.

Pat's a good fisherman, we had a fun two days on the water. He will enjoy the REDFISH on the grill.

Last week John Fox was going to fish with his brother Barry. Barry was a no show. This week he jumped on the Cajun Limo for an ANGLING ADVENTURE.
John & Barry have fished with me for several years, we always have a great time. We made our way over to the Biloxi Marsh where we fished a small interior lake to catch many Specks. John & Barry like their trout to be "Mississippi legal". We kept about a dozen before we decided to look for some REDFISH. Made a short move and started to catch REDFISH & Black Drum. At mid morning they wanted to look for Triple Tail. Made our way into Lake Borgne and looked for some TT but didn't see any. Made our way back to the Spots & Dots dock for a short day on the water. John & Barry I'll see you next time. BROTHERS FISHING TOGETHER, CATCHING FISH!!! ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL ANGLING ADVENTURE.

RIGOLETS FISHING REPORTS

Long time client Johnny Newsome and son Steve made their way over from Al for an Angling Adventure. We left at safe light and made the run to the Biloxi Marsh. Johnny & Steve love to catch the hard fighting REDFISH. We arrived at the marsh and started casting H&H spinners, Johnny always fishes the LSU color. Steve dosen't care. I had Steve rigged with H&H spinner with a Lime/Bone color. It didn't take long before Steve hooked a good REDFISH, BUT his line broke. We rerigged and he was ready to go again. By this time Johnny put a nice RED in the box. We moved about 75 yeard from where Steve hooked his RED and Steve hooked another. This time we caught the RED. As I was pulling the hook from the REDFISH I could see his first spinner in the RED'S throat. Steve not only caught the same fish he also got the spinner back. The rest of the day was a blast as the guys had their limit by lunch. It's great to see a father and son enjoying the great fishing we have in SE Louisiana.

Gabrille Dell and her husband Markus could only fish the same day. NO PROBLEM!!! I set them up with Capt. John. They fished the Rigolets area and had a mixed box with 15 Speckled Trout, 2 Big Black Drum & 2 REDFISH.  This was their first saltwater fishing trip. They fished the local protected areas with live shrimp on the bottom. Capt. John did a good job coaching them on the saltwater bite. There will be a big fish fry in Folsom!!!!!

FISHING REPORTS

All good things must come to an end---And hard work pays off!!!!

I made a trip with Marsh & Bayou's Steve McNemar and his wife Stacie. I jinxed the trip by bragging about my last 7 trips, limiting on good REDFISH.
If we would have known we were jinxed we would have come in before the heat.  We made our way over to the Biloxi Marsh. Fishing shrimp under a cork and spinners we put 1 limit of REDFISH in the box and 1 nice Flounder. But the bite died quickly. We tried to get on a trout bite but in the middle of the day in the middle of summer that's a tall order. We only caught Ladyfish and catfish. Not what we were looking for. We decided to run for the cool air conditioned Spots & Dots Lake House. Steve and Stacie are a blast to fish with, I'm sure we will do it again.

My next ANGLING ADVENTURE begins at safe light with Derek Santangelo and 2 coworkers Blake and Bryan. We made our way over to the Biloxi Marsh. We fished shrimp under corks to slowley put some REDFISH in the box. I asked the guys if they had "trains, plains or busses to catch" the answer NO!!! We will fish as long as we need too. Good, I explained my hard luck the day before and my determination to come back with a full box. We made many moves as I put this puzzle together. With the tide just about to turn I made a long move, We fished a large pond deep in the marsh to put the bulk of our Reds in the box at this pond. Bryan, Blake & Derek all fished hard on a slow day to put a full box together. We came up 3 short of the limit of fat REDFISH all 20" to 29", 3 to 10lbs and ready for the grill.
This group were up to the task and we all had a fun time on the water. We watched the sun come up on our way out and we watched it set on our way in. A long day that we will all remember!!!!!

(shrimp, spoons, spinners) Blair put his limit in the box fast then helped Paul & Joby with theirs. This group had a fun time and the jokes were nonstop. I have enjoyed fishing with Blair & Joby for the last 15 years, Paul has fished with them also for the last 5. We always have a great time.

THE ADVENTURE IS CATCHING!!!
Call to book your GREAT time 985-781-7811 or 877-4-AAofLA. I still have several good dates open. The fall fish will be great. I have on-site accommodations at the SPOTS & DOTS LAKE HOUSE, just steps from the dock. Small or large groups are welcome. ANGLING ADVENTURES OF LOUISIANA where the fishing is always great and the CATCHING is GUARANTEED!!!!

Thanks Joby, Blair & Paul
